Seorang pemusik lagu-lagu rock yang telah bertobat, Alice Cooper, pernah berkata, "When you believe in God, you've got to believe in the all-powerful God. He's not just God, He's the all-powerful God and He has total control over everyone's life. The Devil, on the other hand, is a real character that's trying his hardest to tear your life apart," atau jika kita mengaku percaya pada Allah, percayalah dengan segenap hati bahwa Ia mahakuasa serta berdaulat penuh atas hidup kita; di pihak lain, si jahat atau Iblis adalah sosok nyata yang akan sangat berupaya untuk menghancurkan kehidupan kita.

Firman Tuhan pun mengingatkan kita agar jangan sampai menjadi murtad. Kata 'murtad' sendiri menurut kamus merupakan berbalik belakang, membuang iman, berganti menjadi ingkar. Saya tidak bisa membayangkan artinya membuang iman. Namun, demikianlah yang pernah dialami serta dilakukan oleh umat-Nya, Israel, selama bertahun-tahun.

Ibrani 3:9 (FAYH), "Tetapi Allah bersikap sabar terhadap mereka empat puluh tahun lamanya, walaupun mereka menguji kesabaran-Nya dengan sangat. Dan Ia tetap mengadakan mujizat-mujizat-Nya di tengah-tengah mereka."

Even though they watched me at work for forty years, your ancestors refused to let me do it my way; over and over they tried my patience. (MSG)

For forty years your ancestors tested God and saw the things he did. "Then God got tired of them and said, 'You people never show good sense, and you don't understand what I want you to do.'" (CEVUK)

Bagaimana dengan kehidupan rohani kita saat-saat ini?

Kiranya, kita dapat terus saling mengingatkan maupun mendoakan agar tetap teguh dalam iman dan kasih kita kepada Tuhan Yesus.

Ibrani 3:12-13 (TSI), "Jadi, Saudara-saudari, berjaga-jagalah supaya jangan ada di antara kalian yang mempunyai hati jahat yang menolak untuk percaya, sehingga kalian berhenti menaati Allah yang hidup. Kuatkanlah satu sama lain setiap hari. Firman TUHAN tadi dimulai dengan kata 'Hari ini.' Maka setiap hari, selama masih bisa disebut 'hari ini,' berjaga-jagalah supaya tidak seorang pun di antara kalian mengeraskan hati karena tertipu oleh dosa-dosanya sendiri."

So, brothers and sisters, be careful that none of you has the evil thoughts that cause so much doubt that you stop following the living God. But encourage each other every day, while you still have something called "today." Help each other so that none of you will be fooled by sin and become too hard to change. (ERV)

So watch your step, friends. Make sure there's no evil unbelief lying around that will trip you up and throw you off course, diverting you from the living God. For as long as it's still God's Today, keep each other on your toes so sin doesn't slow down your reflexes. (MSG)

"In accordance with that, my fellow believers, beware that none of you wickedly stops trusting in Christ. That would cause you to reject the all-powerful God. Instead, each of you must encourage each other every day, while you still have the opportunity, in order that no one of you may stubbornly reject God by letting others deceive you (as you deceive yourselves), with the result that you sin."
